Psilocybin Mushrooms
Raw · Capsule · Edible Preparations
Product Overview
ÆTHER psilocybin mushrooms are available in three preparations: raw dried mushrooms, precisely measured capsules, and handmade edible preparations. All formats contain whole fruiting body material from the same stock — the preparation differs, not the medicine. Intended for intentional use in a safe and supportive environment by adults 21 years of age or older only. Psilocybin is a long-duration psychedelic with a well-established safety profile in clinical settings. Approach thoughtfully — set and setting are among the most significant determinants of experience quality.

Potential Benefits
Psilocybin is among the most clinically researched psychedelics and has received FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation for both treatment-resistant depression (2018) and major depressive disorder (2019). A landmark 2006 study by Roland Griffiths at Johns Hopkins found that a single session produced mystical experiences participants rated among the most meaningful of their lives, with lasting improvements in mood and wellbeing. More recent trials report 70–80% response rates for treatment-resistant depression — from a single session — with effects persisting for months. Efficacy has also been demonstrated for tobacco addiction, alcohol use disorder, end-of-life anxiety, and OCD.
Spiritual Significance
Psilocybin mushrooms carry one of the deepest ceremonial histories of any psychoactive substance. Stone mushroom effigies from Mesoamerican cultures date to 1000 BCE. The Mazatec people of Oaxaca, Mexico — whose curandera María Sabina became the most celebrated practitioner of mushroom ceremony in the modern era — preserved an unbroken healing tradition in which the mushrooms, called teonanácatl ("flesh of the gods"), were understood as living medicine and divine intermediaries. The ceremony as practiced by Sabina and her lineage was not ritual in the modern sense — it was direct communion with a living intelligence that dwelt within the mushrooms and spoke through the healer for the benefit of those in need.
R. Gordon Wasson's 1957 LIFE magazine account of participating in one of Sabina's ceremonies — the first such published account by a Westerner — ignited global interest and set off the first wave of psychedelic research. The Good Friday Experiment of 1962, in which divinity students given psilocybin reported full mystical experiences indistinguishable from the peak experiences of history's great mystics, and a 25-year follow-up that confirmed the experiences remained among the most meaningful of their lives, established psilocybin as a reliable entheogen — a substance that genuinely produces what mystics describe as sacred encounter.
Neuroscientist Robin Carhart-Harris's research has given this a mechanistic dimension: psilocybin dramatically suppresses the Default Mode Network — the brain's system of self-referential processing, the neural substrate of the ego. Its silencing corresponds precisely with the dissolution of the ordinary sense of self that mystics have described, across all traditions, as the gateway to genuine spiritual experience. Whether understood through the lens of neuroscience, anthropology, or direct practice, psilocybin has earned its place at the center of a global conversation about the nature of consciousness, healing, and what it means to be fully human.
Available Species
ÆTHER sources and prepares multiple Psilocybe species. All produce the same active compounds — psilocybin and psilocin — but differ in potency, growth characteristics, and subtle experiential qualities. Dosing ranges on this page are calibrated to Psilocybe cubensis as the standard reference. When trying a new species for the first time, always begin at the lower end of your intended dose range and allow full onset before assessing.
- The most widely studied species and the standard reference point for dosing
- Moderate, consistent potency across most strains
- Warm, emotionally open character — broad accessibility
- Well-suited to first experiences and therapeutic contexts
- Dosing ranges on this page apply directly
- Native to South Africa — produces large, dense fruiting bodies
- Potency typically higher than cubensis — reduce your intended dose by 25–30% when switching from cubensis
- Onset may be slower than cubensis — allow extra time before assessing
- Users frequently describe a smooth, expansive, and visually rich experience
- Well-regarded for introspective depth and emotional clarity
- A less common species with a distinct potency profile
- Treat as potentially more potent than cubensis until your sensitivity is established
- Begin conservatively — reduce intended dose by at least 25% on first use
- As with all species, potency varies between flushes and growing conditions
- Contact us via Signal with any questions about this species before use
Dosing Guide
Doses below are given in grams of dried mushroom and are calibrated to Psilocybe cubensis. If using natalensis or ochraceocentrada, reduce your intended dose by 25–30% until your sensitivity to that species is established. Potency also varies between batches and flushes — begin conservatively with any new supply. Allow at least 90 minutes after ingestion before concluding the experience has not onset.
Potency varies significantly between batches and strains. Starting low on a new supply is always prudent. Never redose before full onset — psilocybin's delayed onset (up to 90 minutes) has led many people to take additional doses prematurely, resulting in an overwhelming experience.
Set & Setting
Set (mindset) and setting (environment) are the primary determinants of psilocybin experience quality — more so than dose. A comfortable, familiar, and safe environment; a clear intention; and a trusted guide or companion are the foundations of a positive experience. Difficult experiences are more common in chaotic, unfamiliar, or socially demanding environments.
- Choose a familiar, comfortable, and private space
- Nature settings are particularly rewarding at light to moderate doses
- Have a comfortable place to lie down
- Soft lighting — avoid harsh or fluorescent light
- Prepare music in advance — music profoundly shapes the experience
- A trusted, sober guide is strongly recommended at 2 g and above
- Guide should be calm, grounding, and non-directive
- Do not leave the person alone during peak effects
- Challenging emotions are normal — presence and reassurance are the best response
- Avoid stimulating conversation during peak — be a calm anchor
- Fast for 4–6 hours before use to reduce nausea and speed onset
- Approach with clear intention — what are you hoping to understand or heal?
- Clear your schedule — allow the full day without obligations
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior
- Arrange integration time — journaling, rest, or a follow-up conversation
- Surrender to the experience rather than resisting it
- Difficult content is rarely dangerous — it is often the most valuable part
- Lie down, close your eyes, and let the imagery and emotions flow
- Breathe slowly and deeply if anxiety arises
- The experience will end on its own — trust the process

Warnings
- For adults 21 years of age or older only. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
- Do not use if you are alone without a trusted, sober guide or companion, especially at doses of 2 g or above.
- Do not use if you have consumed alcohol or other drugs prior to use.
- Do not use if pregnant or nursing.
- Do not use if you have a personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. Psilocybin can precipitate or exacerbate psychotic episodes in predisposed individuals.
- Do not drive, swim, or operate machinery until fully returned to baseline — a minimum of 6–8 hours after ingestion.
- The experience may produce intense emotional content, challenging thoughts, or overwhelming perceptual changes. This is not an emergency — it is part of the therapeutic process. Surrender and breathe.
- Do not combine with lithium. The combination is associated with a significantly elevated risk of seizures and has been reported in fatalities. This is an absolute contraindication.
- Do not combine with MAOIs. The combination dramatically intensifies and prolongs the experience and may cause adverse cardiovascular or psychological effects.
- SSRIs and SNRIs may blunt or eliminate psilocybin's effects. Consult your prescribing physician before use — do not abruptly discontinue prescribed medications.
- Do not combine with stimulants, including amphetamines or cocaine. Cardiovascular stress and psychological overwhelm are increased.
- Cannabis significantly intensifies the experience and can trigger anxiety or dysphoria — avoid before and during.
- Nausea and vomiting during onset (especially on a full stomach)
- Overwhelming visual or emotional intensity
- Anxiety or panic, particularly during onset
- Thought loops or obsessive ideation
- Challenging or distressing psychological content
- Temporary confusion or disorientation
- Elevated heart rate and blood pressure
- Psychological fragility in predisposed individuals
- Rare: Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder (HPPD)
